Representative Hal Rogers announced Tuesday that he has secured $6.3 million for Outdoor Venture Corporation to continue production of a military tent system used by the United State’s Army and Marine Corps.

The funding is included in the 2006 Defense Appropriations bill, approved by the U.S. House of Representatives on Monday.

"I couldn't be more proud of the employees of Outdoor Venture Corporation," Representative Rogers said. "This funding is a testament to their ability to produce high quality equipment for our soldiers."

"We certainly appreciate all of the congressman's efforts to secure the funding," OVC Chairman, J.C. Egnew said. "The funding he has secured in the past has helped the military avoid a shortage in tents when the War in Iraq began. He has helped us as well as helped the soldiers fighting for our country."

Egnew said the tent system OVC helps to produce isn't the only project being worked on in the company. "There are three key programs we are working that are on multi year contracts right now." Egnew credits the diversification of the product line for the long-term success of the corporation.

"Obviously demand for tents has gone down but we still are able to maintain reasonably close to our current level of employment.

"We have been in business for 33 years, and we hope to be in business for another 33 years. We are always looking for and pursuing new opportunities to replace projects that have matured or faded away," he said.

Outdoor Venture is one of several companies involved in the production of the tent system with about half of the work being done in Stearns.

Congressman Rogers also secured $31 million toward the operation of U.S.P. McCreary County in the 2006 Science, State, Justice Appropriations bill.
